The Walk

Adeel Akhtar portrays a man on a weekly trek to his nearest JobCentre, entering a state of purgatory through barriers put in place by the system.

Pilgrimage or purgatory? Every Wednesday Amar endures a 24-mile round trip to the JobCentre to sign on – a journey taken on foot after the local bus route is cut. The journey becomes particularly gruelling as he comes to terms with the recent death of his father and faces the reality that attending the funeral will mean missing his next appointment and jeopardizing his access to support.

Produced by Anna Griffin, The Walk was made with the support of BFI NETWORK, awarding National Lottery funding.
