Anthony Bushell directs this 1950 British drama about the rise and fall of a family of Austrian piano-makers in Vienna.
Anthony Bushell’s drama The Angel with the Trumpet is a sweeping look at Austrian history through the eyes of a family of piano-makers in Vienna. Henrietta Stein (Eileen Herlie) is a woman from an academic background who falls in love with Prince Rudolf (Norman Wooland) – however, the royal official does not love her back. Instead, she marries Francis Alt (Basil Syndey), a successful piano manufacturer. Together, they witness history from the end of the 19th century to the Second World War in Bushell’s moving, melancholy drama.
Bushell’s The Angel with the Trumpet is a remake of 1948’s Der Engel mit der Posaune, and both are adapted from the novel by Ernst Lothar.
