Sergio Corbucci’s iconic and hugely influential Western follows the titular coffin-dragging drifter as he becomes embroiled in a mortal feud.
On foot, dragging a coffin behind him, a mysterious drifter calling himself Django arrives on the outskirts of a mud-drenched town near the Mexico-US border. He saves the life of prostitute, Maria, from Mexican bandits, and then again from a gang of racists under the command of corrupt former Confederate soldier. Before long Django is embroiled in a bitter feud between both factions.
Along with Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Sergio Corbucci's Django set the template for the 'Spaghetti Western', inspiring countless imitators and over 30 unofficial sequels. Quentin Tarantino also paid his own particular homage with Django Unchained in 2012.
