Chicken Run
Mel Gibson’s Rocky the rooster helps the chickens escape from fascistic farmers in Aardman Animations first foray into feature films.
Director: Peter Lord and Nick Park
Overview
The first feature film from Aardman is a rousing riff on The Great Escape, with Mel Gibson’s Rocky rooster enlisted to help a gang of plucky chickens escape their coop and the farmers’ fascistic new fattening techniques.
Following their wildly successful (and Oscar-winning) series of Wallace & Gromit shorts, Bristol’s Aardman Animations joined forces with Hollywood’s Dreamworks for an ambitious attempt at feature-length, stop-motion animation. The result was an overwhelming success, the film winning widespread accolades and awards and entrenching itself as an established family favourite of British animation.
