Reality bites for a hedonistic young New Yorker who suddenly has to grow up quickly, in a brilliantly acted drama from the team behind Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Christopher Abbott (Girls) is superb as the title character in this absorbing drama about a hedonistic New Yorker who has to grow up very fast. Still reeling from the death of his father, James quickly discovers his mother (Cynthia Nixon) is also gravely ill, and an unanticipated world of responsibilities has suddenly landed in his lap.
Produced by the team behind Martha Marcy May Marlene and Simon Killer, James White is directed by Josh Mond, the last member of the Borderline Films collective to direct his own film. As with their other films it’s a highly assured and auspicious production, anchored around the interplay between its two lead performers, who deliver stunning and starkly memorable performances.
