Pulsating sequel to the acclaimed drug-cartel thriller, which sees federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) re-teaming with the enigmatic Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro).
When federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) is tasked with artificially escalating the Mexico-US drug war, he enlists the help of enigmatic freelancer Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro). Alejandro's plan involves the kidnap of a cartel kingpin's daughter, but when the US authorities get cold feet about the ploy, both men find themselves in too deep to back out.
Although the director of the sensational first film, Denis Villeneuve, has been replaced by the highly capable Stefano Sollima (Suburra, the Gomorrah TV series), it's the return of screenwriter Taylor Sheridan that ensures the sequel stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its predecessor. While Sheridan's script again crackles with nihilistic edge and nerve-shredding tension, this entry is also burnished with contemporary resonances around the war-on-terror and Trump-era border security. It results in a confluence of riveting drama, intense political intrigue and high-octane action.
