A mild-mannered bank worker plans to rob £1million from the Bank of England in this evergreen Ealing comedy, starring Alec Guinness.

Affable bank worker Henry Holland plots to steal £1million from the Bank of England. He enlists the help of his friend, a small businessman, as the two scheme to smuggle the money out of the country. This light-hearted Ealing comedy sees Alec Guinness and Stan Holloway star as the charming pair of would-be bank robbers.

One of three collaborations between director Charles Crichton and writer T.E.B Clarke at Ealing (as well as The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953) and Hue and Cry (1947)), The Lavender Hill Mob exemplifies Ealing studio head Michael Balcon's attitude of "mild revolution".
