Gerard Johnson’s (Hyena, Muscle) dark-humoured portrait of a lonely man who is desperate to connect but quick to lash out.
Tony (Peter Ferdinando) cuts an odd figure. Wandering the streets of his East London neighbourhood, he quietly observes the people around him, occasionally inviting an unlucky few back to his flat for some squash. Asking a prostitute for a cuddle or reeling off his extensive VHS collection, he is desperate to connect but quick to lash out. But then a child goes missing and visitors come knocking.
With a moody, eerie soundtrack by Matt Johnson, the director’s brother and member of band The The, the camera focuses more on Tony's quietly disciplined life on the sidelines over his impulsive penchant for killing. Adapted from a short that Johnson had filmed several years earlier, Tony makes for an oddly sympathetic character despite the many skeletons in his closet.
