Newport Corporation, in its bid to be seen to be on an onwards, upwards and outwards trajectory, seems ready to throw out the old, to welcome the domination of the town's streets by traffic and to embrace any industrialists who recognise that Newport offers "an unrivalled seaway to the world" – and award-winning housing to boot.
