A Spring Holiday
A leisurely holiday to the South West of England via Evesham and Weston Super Mare.
From the collection of:
Overview
It's April 1935 and Edwin Elliott leaves his Birmingham home armed with a cine camera bound for the South West of England. Early in the season he captures horse riding on a quiet beach at Weston super Mare and scenes in sleepy Dawlish and Torquay far from the bustle of high season. Picturesque Clovelly also features: a real favourite amongst home movie makers with its steep cobbled streets and donkey rides back up to the top of the village.
The film-maker Edwin Elliott was the director of the British Optical Lens Company, a Birmingham based firm that made lenses and plastic bodies for cameras. The firm also produced a stills camera sold by Woolworths under the name VP Twin. He was a member of the cine section of the Birmingham Photographic Society.
