Violet Asquith, daughter of the Prime Minister Herbert Asquith, arrives at church to marry Maurice Bonham Carter.
Lively crowds and mounted police are out in force for the wedding of Miss Violet Asquith (daughter of Prime Minister Herbert Asquith) and Liberal politician Maurice Bonham Carter. There’s a tantalisingly brief glimpse of the bride as she arrives at St Margaret's Church, Westminster. The happy couple went on to have a large family, and one of their grandchildren is the actor Helena Bonham Carter.
Violet Asquith was active in Liberal politics in her own right, as well as being the daughter of a Prime Minister and a close friend of Winston Churchill. She stood for parliament twice, and campaigned for equal pay for women and against apartheid.
