A young boy, fascinated by town life after being brought up in a mining village, captures on film the comings-and-goings at Carmarthen Railway Station.
Footage shot at Carmarthen Railway station by John Walters using the 9.5mm camera he was given in 1949, aged 12. John’s father was a miner, becoming manager of the local Godre’r Graig Working Men’s Club and then moving to become proprietor of the Nelson Hotel, Red Street, Carmarthen. The change from mining village to major town was marked and young John was fascinated by the life of the livestock mart, quayside, railway, markets, shops and pubs.
