Crawley & Horsham Foxhounds
Watch the Crawley & Horsham Hunt shakin' their livers in this lively film about fox-hunting and point-to-point racing made by Dora Harmer
From the collection of:
Overview
Dora Harmer's lively little film shows the Crawley & Horsham Hunt assemble with their hounds for a hunt in the West Sussex countryside. After the riders and hounds have set off for their quarry the action moves to steeplechasing at a local point-to-point. Here we see hunters being raced over jumps - with a few refusals. Finally, we see the Hunt assemble at Knepp Castle with views of the park, sheep and a statue of a dog.
Dora Harmer, born in 1903, made this short 8mm amateur film when she was in her sixties. She made a number of films featuring Storrington and other parts of West Sussex, as well as capturing on her 8mm camera events like local horse shows and the hunting and steeplechasing scenes shown here. Dora Harmer died in September 2009, having reached the age of 106.
