The great Stanley Matthews reveals the new range of football boots he helped design exclusively for Co-operative stores in this 1950s advertisement.

Generally considered one of the greatest football players of all time, Stanley Matthews was fastidious about his rigid daily training regime, healthy diet and sports kit throughout a long career. Here he promotes a new range of lightweight, flexible 'Stanley Matthews' football boots he helped to design, available exclusively from Co-operative stores.

Though 'the Magician' Matthews may have helped design these boots for the Co-op, he later revealed in his autobiography that he didn't actually wear them for match play himself – at the time he sported foreign-made, lightweight boots of a style then unavailable in England.
