Entertainment in Newham

A whistle-stop tour of the entertainment options available to the citizens of Newham in the 1970s, documented by a local council filmmaker.

This fascinating time capsule captures the facades of various Newham theatres and cinemas, as well as outdoor events such as a Shakespeare play in the park. The "biggest event" - the annual town show - offers plenty of rides, stalls, attractions and even a marching band to keep the crowds entertained. Visitors won't let the cloudy skies dampen their spirits and they're all smiles as they pose for the film camera.

This film is from the collection of Newham Local History Resource Centre.
