Founders' Day at Dr Barnardo's Homes
A fundraising event at Dr Barnardo's rural retreat for the urban poor.
Overview
Six years after opening his first 'ragged school' for destitute boys in East London, Dr Barnardo set up his Girls' Village Home in rural Essex. Founder's Day was an opportunity for old boys and girls from the homes, and other guests, to donate money in support of the cause. The parade of tottering little orphan girls, pristinely clad in white, would have no-doubt encouraged guests to 'dig deep'.
Charity events were always a high priority for Topical Budget, serving them up as heart-warming stories for the British public to be proud of.
