The attractive village of Meifod, in the Vyrnwy valley, is the holiday destination of the Cone family who arrive with baggage and cameras.
A room with a view: the inhabitants of Vyrnwy House, Meifod, Montgomeryshire (Powys) offer both this and a warm welcome to their guests from Flintshire. The family make the most of their free time, visiting Dolanog Waterfalls, Lake Vyrnwy and dam, Welshpool, Powis Castle, Tal-y-llyn and Dolgoch Falls. They also take a trip on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway and wander around St Tysilio and St Mary's Church in the village, with its extensive 9 acre churchyard.
This footage was shot by Joseph Cone, of Pentre, Queensferry, Flintshire, a member of Deeside Cine Club (HQ: Rivertown Schoolroom, Shotton) and a provider of film shows locally. He was proprietor of a General Merchant's business, selling hardware, oil and electrical goods and photographic film which he developed and printed. At the cine club's competition night in 1967, he was awarded the Committee Cup by the audience for this film. On the same evening, two members won the J Cone trophy for their joint film.
