Howarth's Egerton Mill, Ordsall Lane, Salford (1900)

The dinner time hustle and bustle of a Salford street at the dawn of the 20th century.

The Egerton Mill was owned by cotton giants Richard Howarth & Sons. At its height Howarth's employed around 4000 people, many of them women and young girls, in their cotton mills and weaving sheds across Salford. Unlike other Mitchell and Kenyon 'factory gate' films, which were concerned with capturing as many workers as possible, this title also offers a wonderful long-shot of Ordsall Lane.
