Rare wartime colour film shows Kew Gardens in full bloom while visitors of all ages stroll past or relax on the sunlit lawns.
Filmed during the Second World War, a blooming Kew Gardens is captured beautifully in colour by an amateur filmmaker, most probably the renowned Rosie Newman. Gorgeous close-ups of vivid blossoms are interspersed with shots of flowerbeds bursting with colour. You can also catch a glimpse of the various attractions and structures dotted around the gardens, including the Palm House, the Japanese Gateway and the bell tower.
This film is from the collection of London Transport Museum, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
