Lakeland Poets
Immerse yourself in the beautiful serenity of the Lake District and the poetry this treasured landscape inspired.
Overview
"The place where nature has been most lavish with her gifts": this filmic celebration of the Lakeland poets Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey explores the Cumbrian landscape that inspired their work. This is one of many films that the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) made to encourage people to book a train trip.
This lyrical film would no doubt have enticed many a viewer to their local railway station's ticket office. Footage of the Lake District's most prized landmarks - including Windermere, Scafell Pike and Dove Cottage in Grasmere, where Wordsworth wrote some of his most famous poems - is interspersed with biographical nuggets of the poets' lives, celebrating the romance of the Lakeland landscape.
