Madness of the Heart

PG rating

The path to true love never runs smooth, but poor Margaret Lockwood gets more of a bumpy ride than anyone deserves in this post-war melodrama.

Lockwood was one of Britain’s biggest stars of the 1940s and this post-war melodrama puts her through her paces as Lydia, a beautiful woman who thinks her dreams have come true when she falls in love with a wealthy French aristocrat. This is a rare directing credit for Charles Bennett (who also adapted the source novel), the successful screenwriter and early Hitchcock collaborator.
