Women wear the trousers: sample the latest Parisian couture with this pretty stencil-coloured piece from Eve's Film Review.
Sample the latest Parisian couture with this pretty stencil-coloured piece from Eve's Film Review, Pathe's popular female-focused 'cinemagazine'. To modern eyes the models' opulent, gossamer-light outfits suggest elegant femininity - but the clever incorporation of trousers into full skirts and the flashes of bare shoulder would still have been considered daring by many at the turn of the 1930s. Eve offered a heady dose of aspirational escapism to cinema-goers for whom such luxuries were well out of reach.
Eve and Everybody's Film Review enjoyed a long run in cinemas from 1921-1933. Other stories in this edition from 23 April 1931 included waterskiing, women farmers in Italy and travelling entertainers in Madagascar.
