Minehead Town v Exeter City FA Cup
Westward TV’s Chris Fear commentates the FA Cup second round match between Minehead Town and Exeter City. The match is played at the recreation ground Irnham Road in Minehead on 17th December 1977 and finishes 0-3. “I haven’t seen a better goal all year” says Fear as Randell almost on a hat-trick puts away a second goal. Andy Leitch, Jimmy Jenkins and Billy Bryant are part of the action for Minehead while Colin Randell scores for Exeter City with the help of Phil Roberts.
Minehead Football Club formed in 1889, joined the Western League in 1923, and were relegated to Division Two soon after, after finishing last place they withdraw from the League altogether in 1928. They re-joined in 1949 climbing to Division One and turned semi-professional in 1950-51. Exeter City was formed initially from two clubs Exeter United and St Sidwell’s United, after a match where Exeter United lost 3-1, the teams decided to join and become Exeter City in 1904. Member of the Football League from 1920 to 2003 then the Conference, Exeter are promoted to League Two in 2008 and achieve automatic promotion to League One the following year but are relegated in 2012.
