Much Wenlock Events

Junior cycle trials, crowning of the carnival queen and the British Legion on the march - all part of daily life at Much Wenlock in Shropshire.

This uncredited home movie shows a snapshot of town life in Much Wenlock. A typical carnival complete with maypole dance shows the town coming together in age-old tradition. The junior cycle trial (complete with beer bottle slalom course) is a newer invention in response to safety fears surrounding the ever increasing flow of traffic in rural areas. A British Legion parade (probably filmed a few years earlier) completes the reel.
