Newsreels brought the Western Front back to British audiences, and became a key part of the propaganda strategy of the wartime government. Yesterday's newsreels couldn't be used to wrap tomorrow's fish and chips, and their lifespan in the cinema was short. We don’t know when or why this compilation of stories ranging from 1916 to 1925 was spliced together, but whether curated by chance or design its combined impact resonates across the years.
