Otter hunting from start to finish. Some viewers may regard this as an interesting, historical record, others as evidence of human cruelty.
Otter hunting is seen here as it was practised for generations before it was banned in 1978 (at which point otterhounds often became minkhounds until mink hunting was also banned, in 2005). Captain David Protheroe, the Master, is seen in action and Dr Rowland C Thomas, doctor and local coroner who was capped twice for Wales, is immortalised on film scratching his backside, not having been edited out by his friend W H Buckley of the Buckley's Brewery (Llanelli) family.
Buckley's Brewery was situated in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. Castell Gorfod, the family home, was near Llangynin and W Kemmis Buckley, son of W H Buckley, wrote an interesting account of life in a country house for the Carmarthenshire Antiquary, Vol. XXVI 1990, entitled 'A Carmarthenshire Childhood'.
