Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee - Paul - York Road - Bands
The Band of the First Life Guards approaches Westminster Bridge during Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
Overview
We can only imagine the noise of the Jubilee. The crowds, the footfall, and this mounted band. While the filmographic record of the event has some big holes in it, the phonographic record is non-existent. Another piece of footage derived from RW Paul’s Jubilee films (corresponding to the films of the front of the parade before Westminster Bridge), here the sight of the band reminds us that despite being invented prior to cinematography, sound recording was not as easily adaptable to a documentary function as the camera.
