Warminster Street Celebrations and Street Scenes

Long live the King - and the car! Warminster celebrates the coronation of George V with a parade of motor cars.

Poot, poot! The age of the motor car arrived in Warminster in time to mark the Coronation of a new King. Claude Wilcox, who likely filmed these scenes, was the owner of Warminster Motor Company - as well as a handsome Dalmatian dog and a cine camera. The carnival procession along the town's High Street on 22 June 1911 marked the coronation of George V, and the following day the Warminster Journal reported that Claude Wilcox's Dalmatian Car won second prize.

Wilcox's business specialised in both two and four wheel vehicles, which perhaps explains the comic bicycle scenes with a sympathetic policeman on hand.
