This amateur newsreel is topically twofold: both a salient spin on wrestling to fundraise, and a captivating window into Northwood revamped.
This scoop opens with a stirring sequence of wrestlers in the ring, coupled with hearty narration on the charitable nature of the event, for the purpose of the Maternity Hospital Amenity Fund. Then, a title card - “Northwood Gets a Face-lift.” The narration shifts to the modernisation of the village’s railway, coupled with scenic shots of the location itself. The story opens out into scenes of the surrounding village and excitedly contemplates developments to follow.
This film is from the collection of Headstone Manor Museum, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
