Workers at Bradley Shed, Nelson, Lancashire (1900)

Athletic young Lancashire cotton weavers show off outside their Victorian mill.

These young cotton weavers clearly delight in the presence of Mitchell and Kenyon's camera. This animated atmosphere would have pleased the showmen, who almost certainly encouraged the boys' antics. The roly-poly and the handstand, especially, would have amused audiences when the film was shown at a 'Living Pictures' exhibition a few days later, at nearby Burnley Town Hall.
