Workforce at Steel & Garland Priory Foundry, Worksop (1900)

An early film showing men and boys leaving a Nottinghamshire metals factory.

This is one of the more orderly workplace exits filmed by Mitchell and Kenyon. Look out, though, for the last three men to leave, good mates in no hurry. Once they're gone the camera is stopped. But as with many of M&K's urban crowd films, the operator then uses what's left of the film stock in the camera to take a second, less tidy shot of kids waving at him - and at us, more than a century on.
