Workpeople Leaving Fish's Waterfall Mill, Blackburn (1900)

Lancashire cotton workers hurry to lunch after morning shift.

A long and exhausting shift in hot, noisy conditions doesn't seem to have quelled the boisterous energy of these mill workers, who push and shove one another as they are funnelled in their hundreds through an archway. While no doubt glad to see the bright sunlight, many squint their eyes, perhaps trying to work out what is going on with the camera operator who is filming in front of them.
