An amateur silent film illustrating the people and places of northern Nigeria, by Charles Bruce. From daily market life to adobe architecture, the film also features ceremonies and horse racing at a traditional Durbar.
Charles Bruce captures the Durbar Festival – an annual event celebrated during the Muslim festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha a tradition of the Hausa people for over 500 years. The great mosque at Kano is shown as an example of adobe architecture and ornament. Horse racing, in the European-style is also recorded in the city.
