Monty Python reunited for their final film outing trying to top one of the funniest films ever made in Life of Brian. In response to the perceived excesses of contemporary comedy, they came up with a series of outrageous sketch ideas, touching upon timeless themes such as sex, war, death and gluttony. This is also the film in which Eric Idle's songs reached a highpoint, with jaunty numbers including Every Sperm Is Sacred and The Galaxy Song adding some brilliantly choreographed musical extravagance. The film was rewarded with the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize in 1983, narrowly missing out to Shōhei Imamura's The Ballad of Narayama for the Palme d'Or.
