Bradford Adverts Reel 3

No wearisome overblown advertising for cinema-goers back in 1931, just straightforward advice: don’t risk accidents and “Don’t buy a dud!”

Among the line-up of these local cinema adverts of the early 1930s are a draper and milliner, a cycle shop, a builder, a bakers, opticians, mineral water manufactures, a car seller and a coach travel operator. Yet, only the most dedicated research will find any evidence of these nine local businesses, providing good and services for the people of Bradford. Here they are preserved in quaint animations that testify to their undoubted fine quality.

This film originated with Mr Spink who owned a cinema in Yeadon, West Yorkshire. It isn’t known who made this film, very possibly Youngers Shoppers Gazette who made similar advertisements in Bradford during this period. The only one of these businesses for which there remains a trace for the casual enquirer is J.R. Lloyd Opticians, for which there is still a business so named on Sunbridge Road in Bradford.
