Congregation Leaving Warrington Parish Church (1902)

Edwardian Churchgoers crowd around the gates to St Elphin's after Sunday morning service.

As far as we know, the service on 31st August 1902 was nothing out of the ordinary, and it's hard to say if the large mass of people in the congregation reflects the importance of churchgoing to Edwardian society or whether the presence of a camera has proved a draw. The appearance of a boy drummer from the local regimental band catches the eye, as do the dummy-chewing babies.
