Chichester Tour

A fascinating film showing the cathedral city of Chichester before the arrival of its ringroad and the pedestrianisation of its Roman streets.

This wonderful colour film from the mid-1960s starts with views across fields towards the cathedral, as seen from the railway footbridge. We then see the Chichester Cross, dating from 1501, at the intersection of the city centre's four main roads - where pedestrians and traffic still mingle. Chichester's elegant Georgian buildings are featured along with a variety of shopfronts, some of which are still trading in exactly the same location.
