The annual Hospital Procession at Skipton, Yorkshire.
Judging by the number of umbrellas on display, it looks like these brass bands and costumed characters, many riding bicycles, braved some pretty miserable weather. Nurses lead the way, collecting money for the local hospital fund, assisted by men with nets on long sticks to reach the back of the crowd. An annual parade still takes place in the Yorkshire town, now called the Skipton Gala.
