The King's Ride in the Isle of Man (1902)

Crowds clamour for a view of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra (on tour) in the Isle of Man.

Mitchell and Kenyon's cameraman captures a fine view of King Edward VII as he is driven past the cheering crowds, as well as the briefest glimpse of Queen Alexandra. Films of royalty proved extremely popular with early film audiences and were widely shown at fairgrounds and other local venues alongside other staples such as travelogues, sporting events and short fiction or comic films.
