Liverpool As Seen from the Front of an Electric Car from the Pierhead to the Circus (1901)

A fascinating film tour into the heart of Edwardian Liverpool.

Filmed from the front of a tram, this is a fine example of the popular early film form known as a 'phantom ride', shot from a moving vehicle to give the audience a virtual journey. Heading from the Pier Head (where the iconic 'Three Graces' had yet to be built), towards the commercial centre of Liverpool, we pass by smartly-dressed city folk - many of whom look towards the camera in fascination.
