Celebrating a Centenary of Cricket in Southampton

A centenary of cricket at Hampshire's County Ground is celebrated - with Australia topping the bill

Peter Tilbury's unique film celebrates a century of cricket at Hampshire's County Ground in Southampton, with a special match between the home team and Australia. The day starts with the arrival of the Lords Taverners, featuring Patrick Moore amongst others. Rain delays play so the Australian team while away the time by playing rugby. We later see them practising and exercising before the match begins. Play commences but it's not too long before the rain returns.

Hampshire would continue to play at the County Ground until 2001 when the club moved to a new purpose built stadium, called the Rose Bowl.
