Llynbarcud - on my great uncle's farm

It’s summer, all the windows of the ‘Llynbarcud’ farmhouse in Cowbridge are open, hay is being gathered in and cows amble between fields.

In the 1950s, Arthur Evans and his wife Florrie (nee Jones) swopped life in Essex for a smallholding in Cowbridge, bringing Florrie nearer to her sister Kate who had married J O D Wade, a surgeon at Pontypridd & District Hospital. At 'Llynbarcud' Arthur and Florrie kept cattle and grew corn. He had an additional job as a local authority rent collector which he is known to have enjoyed greatly since it offered frequent opportunities for socialising and the odd trip to the pub.

Arthur’s farmhouse is seen at the height of summer, every sash window open, and his smartly-dressed daughter is seen leaving after a visit, perhaps, saying goodbye to her mother. There are shots of a sale of livestock and the film closes with shots of Robert Wade and his older brother Peter. This footage will have been shot by either James Stanley Hilary [Larry] Wade or Owen Wade, two of the four sons of surgeon James [Jimmy] O D Wade (OBE), all four of whom entered the medical profession (as did Peter, son of Larry).
