My Name Is Joe
Ken Loach's intense drama boasts a majestic performance from Peter Mullan as a recovering alcoholic in Glasgow, struggling with his feelings for a local health worker.
Director: Ken Loach
Overview
Ken Loach's acclaimed tale of addiction, recovery and redemption follows Joe, an astoundingly intense Peter Mullan, as he attempts to move away from alcohol and towards a new life. After meeting health worker Sarah and developing feelings for her, Joe must find a way to bridge the gap between his past and his future without sacrificing those near to him.
Loach's naturalistic approach to the material, which involved filming amid real council estates and their residents, and allowing actors to use their own local dialects, results in a memorably gritty experience that will resonate long after you’ve finished watching it.
