In 2012, amateur historian Philippa Langley (played by Sally Hawkins) led a search for the remains of Richard III, the last English king to die in battle. Eager to correct his much-maligned reputation, Langley faced down the condescending academic establishment, wrestled with funding pitches and relied on a sceptical but supportive ex-husband (Steve Coogan). What followed made headlines around the world and was even credited with Leicester City Football Club’s unimaginable Premier League win in 2016.
