There is some neat symmetry to the idea of training amputee soldiers learning to make artificial limbs for others. This newsreel item was no doubt intended as a positive message, much like the 'and finally' of modern TV news. But today, it also serves as a poignant reminder of just how many were physically disabled by their wartime experience.
