Blind Oarsmen
Putney plays host to rowing races between soldiers who lost their sight during the war and blind students from Worcester College.
Overview
This short newsreel shows tantalizing glimpses of three rowing races between blind soldiers and their student rivals. The crew is comprised of either two or four rowers. Each team also includes a cox, who helps steer the boat. Lookout for the steamboats with crowds of passengers watching from the deck.
Putney Bridge can be seen in the distance. This crossing of the River Thames in London has been the site of many rowing races over the years. Worcester College is a constituent college of the University of Oxford.
