Buckley Family - point-to- point, puppy show and meets
A point-to-point, puppy show, hunter trials and meets: the language and life of the hunting fraternity, in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

Overview
Working with horses or dogs is not always straightforward, as evidenced here. For the point-to-point races at Pass-by, near Meidrim, the camera is positioned at a difficult jump where a number of refusals and tumbles take place. The hound puppies seen at Castell Gorfod, Llangynin, have been ‘walked’ by farmers (i.e. looked after for a period of months) and are being shown prior to joining the hunt pack but they are strong and not used to the etiquette of the show ring!
Shot by W H Buckley of ‘Castell Gorfod’, Master of the Carmarthenshire Foxhounds and member of the Buckley’s Brewery (Llanelli) family, this title features the South Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire Hunts not only at the point-to-point and puppy show but also at meets in Laugharne (the Celtic cross evident in The Grist) and at ‘Plas Gogerddan’, Penrhyncoch, Aberystwyth, creeper-clad home of hefty horseman Sir Lewes Pryse, which was purchased by the local university in 1950 to house the Welsh Plant Breeding Station. Hunter trials, involving the difficult jumping of a bank and mill leet, take place at Castell Gorfod. W H Buckley’s hound van is seen in use, with Phil the Huntsman loading hounds into it.
