Tom Williams bridges industrial and rural life: he is a fitter at Bryngwyn Sheetworks but, at leisure, carves shepherd's crooks and competes in sheepdog trials with 'Cap'.

Connections: steel, agriculture, water. Tom Williams, a Bryngwyn Sheetworks fitter, also carves shepherd's crooks and competes in sheep dog trials with Cap, his collie. Slag from Cwmfelin is crushed to produce fertilizer and spread on fields in Devon. Barges carry steel sheet along the Thames at dawn to RTB premises at Blackwall, and rain has made development work at Felindre "an almost amphibious" operation. Company sports and Christmas parties/circus are a bonus.

The Richard Thomas and Baldwins quarterly screen reviews which ran from 1949-59 were designed to be of interest to people employed by the company and also their families and friends. This one is presented jointly by RTB and The Steel Company of Wales, a public company formed in 1947 with the aim of modernising steel operations in south Wales. RTB (nationalised in 1951) part-owned SCOW and they co-operated in sales, research and development as they shared premises at a number of works until c.1956, RTB usually owning the steel departments, SCOW the tinplate departments.
