A bumbling railway worker played by Will Hay is appointed as stationmaster in the isolated, and apparently haunted, Northern Irish town of Buggleskelly.
Known as an absolute classic of its genre, Oh, Mr Porter! stars the great Will Hay as a profoundly inept stationmaster who is dismayed to learn that his new job positions him at the haunted railway station of Buggleskelly in Northern Ireland. This marvellous ode to the rural railways of Britain still retains its sharp sense of British humour.
A moderate success upon release, Marcel Varnel’s film has only grown in stature over the years, appearing on Barry Norman’s list of the 100 Best Films of All-Time as well as being championed by the BFI in its rundown of 360 Classic Feature Films. Try as you might, it is difficult not to be charmed by the bumbling British humour that Will Hay and the rest of the cast employ so well.
